A bit of English History, found in Antiques we’ve bought in!

Antique String Instruments

We are lucky enough to come across some real gems in our line of business, and this early 19th Century Violin is no exception!

William & Ethel Fleck Violin

William & Ethel Fleck Violin

The original owner purchased it at auction, and bought it to us to make a quick bit of money to tie him over till pay day

We are so grateful he did, as it is a lovely piece of history!

On inspection and valuation of the item we noticed inside are the markings

William and Ethel Fleck, High Wycombe, “Iona” -1911

This lead us to further research where we found out that William Fleck,

originally a doctor, worked from 1884 and died in 1914, he and his wife Ethel Fleck

were amatuer Violin makers. They made decent violins and Ethel Fleck was

responsible for the finish and varnish of instruments left by her late husband.

She too, is listed as an amateur British violin maker and worked circa 1900 in High Wycombe.

From are research we can see these Violins made by the Husband and wife team are rare,

and on contacting a British Specialist String Auction we have learned that they have never had one go under the hammer.

An Auction house in America auctioned a William & Ethel Fleck Violin in 1992 and it was estimated at $1200-$1400.

If you are interested in purchasing this Violin or have one to sell, you should contact us via our website http://xchange4cash.co.uk/contact

or by phone 01604 945 530,

you can also pop in and see us in our Shop at 52 Gold Street, Northampton, NN1 1RS

After the Christmas period we tend to brush the older smart phones and consoles to one side to make way for the newer ones.
You may also have unwanted items in the loft, hiding in the cupboards, in the shed?
What about granddads war memorabilia that is sat gathering dust? Or the power tools you never use?

Happy Halloween-Half term-Holidays!

It’s been a while since we have updated our website and our blog. We have had a very busy and exciting summer, with record sales! And an added staff member. We have widened our variety of stock and now have a bigger selection of Jewellery and Antiques.

We are now getting ready for the Christmas period, and can’t quite believe it is upon us already! There are lots of events on around the town over the next two months, which are kicked off with the Street fair that is currently on.

St Crispins Street fair Sat 25th – Tues 28th

Carousel in the drapery, northampton

Carousel in the drapery, northampton

This is the 3rd year the fair has returned to Northampton since it was scrapped in 2005. The lay out is a bit puzzleling though, as they have split the rides between Abington Street and the Market Square, and Commercial street Car park. On visiting the fair ourselves, we didn’t bother to go down to the Car Park, as it was a bit of a walk, once we had walked up through Abington Street from Gold Street, which makes me wonder who else felt the same? I think if I was a ride operator I would be annoyed to be down the bottom in the car park, however maybe being next to the main road did them a favour?

We went on the Big Wheel in the market square which was High, Fast and windy!, I think £3.50 was a normal price for this type of ride, but could have benefitted from a family ticket maybe?

We also walked through the Market Walk Shopping centre, and they have a competition on through half term for the kids to find all the Ghosts in the Shops inside the centre and write down there names, I don’t think I have spent so long in the Shopping centre for years!! So it certainly worked in terms of a marketing ploy! I saw lots of ideal Christmas prezzy’s in Bias and some great Christmas Cards in Pick a Card

It’s worth entering the competition as the you will be entered into a draw to win an iPad or £250 spending money, and the kids will have fun searching for the ghosts!

Don’t forget to pop in and see us if you are in town and have the kids in tow, we have loads of cheap games for all consoles and some bargain DVDs they will love spending there pocket money on! Starting from 50p!

We look forward to seeing you soon!

Have a Happy Halloween!

A Study has shown We replace our car’s as often as we replace our Mobile Phones!

A study carried out in July for Privileage Car Insurance found that the average British Motorist changes their Vehicle Four times in 10 years! That’s found to be as often as we replace our Mobile Phones!

I have worked out that on average that would be a change or upgrade every 2.5 years.

What’s the reason for this?

I decided to ask a few of our customers in store what they thought some of the reasons might be, and the answers were pretty similiar.

The most popular answer being ” To have the latest design, and popular brand”

Other answers were ” To look cool in front of friends”, ” To keep up to date with Technology” and ” Because i was offered an upgrade”

Therefore I think due to the fast pace environment we all live in these day’s we can quickly become left behind and out of date, with things like Phones and Cars as the Technology is changing all the time!

We really have no choice but to replace and renew as often as we can, Just simply, to “keep up!”

If you would like to read the whole article on the Survey click here

We are living in a “Now” culture, we see things we want them, we get them! There’s no waiting and saving up anymore, But if you don’t have the luxury of a Contract Phone provided by a network to offer you a FREE upgrade, then Shopping with us or any other second hand store is a great way of keeping up to date with the ever changing Technology. We sell the latest phones, for great prices and with the option to pay over 12 weeks, if you want to spread the cost – interest free!

Here is a couple of  Mobile Phones we have in stock recently with a link to read a review on each.

Salek takes home the PS4!!

So you may have seen that on Sat 5th July we held a FIFA Tournament in our store.

It was the first Playstation/FIFA tournament we have thrown, and we were apprehensive as to how it would go down!, i think it would be fare to say it went down as a great success! And every one seemed to enjoy watching as much as playing the Tournament.

It started at 10am, and there was a bit of re jigging to do, due to some no shows, and people still in bed! But we got started in the end!

There were 16 entries in total, Round 1 saw each player go up against another, with straight knock out, and the winner of each of the 8 matches went through to the next round.

Next was the Quarter Final, with the successful 8 players moving through to play against each other, again straight knock out, and the 4 successful players went through to play in the Semi finals.

We were then left with the 2 Finalists, Who battled it out in the 12 minute final game to win the Playstation 4!

The tournament ran till about 3.30pm, with Salek winning and taking home the console!

The standard of play was second to none, all entrants were tip top FIFA players!

Big up to are contestants! : Daniel, Dean, Aidan, Teddy, Salek, Andrzej, Rob, Maciej, Blake, Sean

Here is some edited video footage of the day! Enjoy!
